Whisper Chat - Privacy Policy

WhisperChat (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a privacy-first, decentralized messaging application. We built WhisperChat on a simple principle: your conversations are yours alone. This Privacy Policy describes what minimal information we interact with and how we protect it.

1. Who We Are and What We Believe

WhisperChat is designed from the ground up to collect as little information as possible. We do not build user profiles, we do not store your messages, and we do not know who you are. We believe privacy is a fundamental right — not a premium feature.

2. How You Sign In — No Personal Information Required

WhisperChat uses your Ethereum (ETH) public wallet address as your identity. This means:
  • No email address is required
  • No phone number is required
  • No real name or personal details are required
  • No password is created or stored by us
    • Your ETH public address is a cryptographic identifier that you control entirely through your own wallet. We never have access to your private key or any ability to act on your behalf.

    3. Information We Do Not Collect

    We want to be clear about what we do not do:
  • We do not store your messages, photos, or any media you send
  • We do not log your conversations or metadata about them
  • We do not track your contacts or social graph
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers
  • We do not use your data to train AI models or analytics systems

    • 4. Information That May Be Processed

    While we strive to collect nothing, a minimal amount of technical data may be processed to keep the app functioning:

    4.1 Your ETH Public Address

    Your public wallet address is used solely to establish and authenticate your identity within the app. It is a publicly available identifier on the blockchain and does not constitute personal information under most privacy frameworks.

    4.2 Signaling Data (Transient)

    To facilitate peer-to-peer connections between devices, a temporary signaling handshake may pass through our servers. This data is never stored, logged, or retained after the connection is established. Once connected, communication is direct between devices.

    4.3 Crash Logs and Diagnostics (Anonymous)

    If the app crashes, anonymous diagnostic data (device type, OS version, error code) may be collected to help us fix bugs. This data contains no identifiers and cannot be traced back to you.

    5. How Your Messages Are Stored

    All messages, media, and chat history are stored exclusively on your device. Our servers never see, receive, or hold your message content at any point. This means:
  • If you uninstall the app, your chat history is deleted from your device
  • If you lose your device, we cannot recover your messages
  • No government request, court order, or law enforcement demand can compel us to produce message content we do not have

    • 6. End-to-End Encryption

    Every message sent through WhisperChat is protected by end-to-end encryption. Messages are encrypted on your device before transmission and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient.
  • Encryption is applied automatically, with no need for manual activation
  • We use industry-standard cryptographic protocols to ensure message integrity and confidentiality
  • Even if our infrastructure were compromised, your message content would remain unreadable

    • 7. Third-Party Sharing

    We do not sell or share your information with third parties for commercial purposes. The only limited exceptions are:
    Infrastructure Providers: We may use minimal third-party services (e.g., signaling relay servers) strictly to facilitate peer-to-peer connections. These providers do not receive message content.
    Legal Obligations: If compelled by a valid legal order, we may disclose the limited technical information we hold (such as your ETH public address and connection timestamps). We will always notify you if legally permitted to do so.

    8. Your Rights and Controls

    You are in control of your data at all times:
  • Delete your account and all associated local data directly from the App settings
  • Use the "Delete for Everyone" feature to remove messages from both sides of a conversation
  • Use the "Self-Destruct" feature to instantly wipe all local data from your device
  • Revoke app permissions such as camera, microphone, and storage at any time via your device settings
  • Disconnect your wallet to unlink your identity from the app

    • 9. Children's Privacy

    WhisperChat is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly interact with users under the age of 13. Since we do not collect personal information, there is no data to delete — but if you believe a child has used WhisperChat, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

    10. Changes to This Policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app and reflected in the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
